Wise In Your Own Eyes
Proverbs 3:7,8 (NKJV) “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”
There are three things this scripture is targeting:
- Do not be Wise in your own eyes – This is targeting your own ego and pride. Don’t rely solely on your own knowledge. God has clearly shown that humans’ knowledge and wisdom are limited.
- Fear the Lord – This is not an emotional anticipation of unpleasant things. This type of fear is reverence and honor for someone greater than you by magnitudes beyond comprehension.
- Depart from evil – This is an action that is a call to repentance.
Consider what the opposite implies.
- Be wise using God’s Wisdom
- Do not live without honoring and reverencing God.
- Staying in sin, doing what you want to do.
The benefits of using God’s Wisdom save you from heartache and trouble. It will guide you in the right direction. For example, repairing your car, choosing a house, or deciding what to do next at your job. The list goes on.
Why does God say following His Wisdom, honoring Him, and departing from evil will be health to your flesh and strength to your bones? Have you considered how following your own decisions increases stress on your body? When you’re stressed, you are technically in a state of distress. When you are distressed, you are not at ease. It opens the door for being in dis-ease (disease). Am I saying that, by not repenting, you will encounter a disease? I’m saying yes, nor am I saying no. Scripture shows examples when God immediately punishes people for disobedience. Scripture also shows examples where God has held back His wrath and judgment. But it is a scientific fact that a body under stress for an extended period will develop physical issues in the near or senior years.
Always remember that whatever God asks us to do is always for our benefit.
Be Blessed!
