Fear God, Hate Evil
Proverbs 8:13 (Amplified) “The [reverent] fear and worshipful awe of the Lord includes the hatred of evil;…”
A popular television evangelist had millions of followers. He raised hundreds of millions of dollars and built several things for the Christian community. Later, he fell into a horrible scandal and ended up going to prison. While in prison, another strong Christian believer visited him because he kept praying for him. The strong Christian believer asked the evangelist, “When did you fall out of love with God to cause you to do those things?” The evangelist said, “I never stopped loving the Lord during the whole time. What happened to me is that I stopped fearing God.”
A person who doesn’t fear the consequences of breaking the law will continue to break the law. They are the ones who say, “It’s ok to do it as long as you don’t get caught.” Think about all the times people drive faster than the speed limit on the freeway, thinking no police officer is on the side with a radar gun. Consider this: if someone is driving the speed limit on the freeway and a car behind them is almost on their bumper, how long will they wait before they angrily and impatiently pass them? Get the point? The moment a person stops fearing God, they will commit any sin, knowing that it is wrong.
When you become a Christian, there should be an innate desire to “want” to do what God wants you to do. You may have many sins you used to do and still desire to do them. By fearing God and knowing the consequences of sin, you will always overcome the desire to sin.
Ask God to give you a clean heart. (Psalm 51:10) Learn to reverence the Lord and seek after Him. Fearing God creates a hatred of sin and doing anything wrong against the Lord. By doing that, you will stay under His protection.
Be Blessed!
