The Narrow Road

Matthew 7:13,14 (NKJV): “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

I will be very direct.  It is not easy to be a Christian.  Christians are mocked, challenged, edited out, and even canceled.  The morals that you know from the Bible are currently tainted and marginalized.  In other words, people accept the parts of the Bible that fit their lifestyle and reject the rest.  And that is just living in America.  There are countries outside of America that arrest and execute Christians.  On February 15, 2015, 21 Egyptian Christians were seized by the Islamic State in Libya and executed on live Television because they refused to convert to Islam.  Some Christians become afraid and start compromising what they know is true and accept things that are contrary to the Word of God.

Compromising the truth, doing what is easy for you, and following the crowd so you don’t stand out is also known as walking the wide, broad road.  Jesus said four things to know about entering the Kingdom of Heaven: (1) It is a narrow path, (2) It is a narrow gate, (3) It is a difficult way, (4) and there will be a few who find it.  Remember this:

  • The road to Heaven feels like Hell.
  • The road to Hell feels like Heaven.

I don’t know about you, but that is a very scary thought.  God was very clear about loving the things in the world.  If you love the things in the world, then the love of God the Father is not in you. (1 John 2:15)

Jesus tells us that the journey to the Kingdom of Heaven is a difficult, narrow path, and only a few will find it.  Jesus did not say the narrow path was impossible to find.  He only said that few will find it, and it is difficult.  Here is the key: where is your heart?  Remember one of the men who was dying on the cross next to Jesus.  He was a convicted thief, but he still asked Jesus to remember him.  Jesus immediately said, “You will be with me in paradise.” Let me ask you a question.  How did a dying man on the cross find the narrow road so quickly?  Why did Jesus accept him in paradise?  Because the man changed his heart and repented while he was on the cross.  So I ask again, “Where is your heart?”  Are you giving lip service, telling folks you are a Christian, but your heart still enjoys what the world offers? Are you looking for the narrow road?

If you are having the good life, no one is ridiculing you because of your beliefs.  Maybe what you see on TV or in the world doesn’t bother you.  Here is some advice: check which road you are on.

Be Blessed!
