Go to Jesus for Rest

Matthew 11:28 (NLT) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Have you worked either on your job or around the house to the point that you are just physically drained and tired?  It could be taking care of your family or distant family.  Regardless of who it may be, the drama is still there, and that is enough to drain your energy.  Well, I recently learned a valuable lesson regarding rest.

When you get to the point where you have had enough, you begin to take matters into your own hands.  I’m referring to taking into account distractions, energy drainers, and everything you see as unproductive that leaves you feeling exhausted.  Have you noticed that all the corrections involve “you” making the corrections?  You are probably thinking, “Well, I allowed these folks to get into my life and drain me.  Or, I said yes too many times to things, knowing there wasn’t enough time to get it done.  But I’m a person of my word, so I will find a way.  My mess, I’m responsible for fixing it.  And that is the problem.  Did you ever think that the energy it takes to fix the problem may be the same as if you were doing it in the first place?  My point is, it takes energy while you’re in the problem, and energy to get out of the problem.

Jesus said plainly to His disciples, “Come to me… and I will give you rest.”  Go directly to Jesus with your problems and your weary, tired body.  And He will not only give you rest but restore you.  Remember Jesus and the Woman at the Well?  Jesus said, “If you come to me, I will give you living water so that you will never thirst again.”  Yes, Jesus always speaks from a spiritual perspective.  But I have learned that when your spirit and mind are rejuvenated, the body will follow.  God always has a different way of doing things.

I recently tried to fix things myself and planned on getting some rest.  Well, that didn’t happen.  In fact, I didn’t get any rest or sleep, and I ended up more exhausted.  I just couldn’t shut down my brain.  Remember, that was “my plan” to rest and eliminate activities causing me to work.  For those of you who are burdened with lots of work, I understand.  Stop burning more energy trying to fix it yourself.  Go to Jesus, give your burdens to Him, and let Him give you something that is beyond rest, called Peace!

Be Blessed!

  1. This is a Significant and Important devotion to take seriously. So many health issues come from the lack of proper rest. Thankful Ron for this reminder to help break the busyness drive and take the proper time to honor the principle of Resting!!! 😄
