Scripture for Today – June 23rd, 2026

The Roaming Roaring Lion

1 Peter 5:8,9 (NKJV) “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

It may shock you, but Satan has many names in the Bible.  In this scripture, he is known as the adversary.  He is also known as the angel of light.  Contrary to most popular beliefs, the devil is not running around in a red jumpsuit with a pitchfork.  Satan, previously known as Lucifer, was the most beautiful angel God ever created.  Now, before you go down the rabbit trail of thinking God created evil in this world, you need to read Isaiah 14:12-17.  It was Lucifer’s pride that got him kicked out of Heaven.  In case you didn’t know, Satan is a Hebrew word that translates to Adversary, Opposer, and Accuser.

Be alert and ready for the enemy’s attacks.   Why?  I guess the real question to ask is, “Why is the enemy constantly attacking me?” The answer is very simple and direct.  Because as a Christian believer, you are a major threat to Satan’s Kingdom.  Another reason why Satan got kicked out of Heaven was that he wanted to be above God.  He was the most beautiful creature, and he knew it.  And his pride and ego led Him to want others to worship Him.

God did not leave us helpless.  In fact, because the Holy Spirit lives inside of us, we have someone greater than Satan living inside of us.  The Bible is clear:

1 John 4:4 (NKJV) “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

James 4:7 (NKJV) “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Satan and his demons will attack you.  They don’t play fair, nor will they ease up on you.  But remember, their strategy is to convince you to do the sinning.  They make sin look so good and convince you that you deserve it.  There was a TV Entertainer named Flip Wilson who used to say, “The Devil made me do it!”  The truth is, the devil only presented you with an option, but he didn’t make you do it.  You decided that on your own.

Be alert.  Stay full of God’s Word, and resist the enemy.

Be Blessed!
