Direct My Steps
Proverbs 20:24 (NLT) “The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?”
Have you ever tried to plan your day, only to get frustrated because you didn’t have answers to take the next step? Or have you prayed to God, asking for direction on your purpose, but feel like your prayers only reach the ceiling? Humans function best when they know ahead of time what needs to be done or which direction they intend to take. We feel more comfortable knowing where the mines are in a minefield than being told to walk across the minefield in faith.
The opposite perspective can also anchor you and keep you from moving forward. Take, for example, when someone does something to you that really hurts. Your mind gravitates to wondering why they did it. Or if something bad happens to you, you want to know why it happened and why it happened to you. Humans need closure; otherwise, our brains will get stuck in an endless loop of trying to figure out why it happened.
To walk in total commitment to the Lord requires total trust in Him. You will understand some things, and you will not understand many. God sometimes delays revealing full understanding because you are not ready. Most of the time, you are so busy trying to figure things out on your own that you come to the wrong conclusions and don’t give God a chance to speak the truth in your life. You need to get out of your own way, trust God, ask Him to direct your steps, and then be patient when He speaks.
I will admit, turning the reins of your life over to the Lord is not easy for some. But I guarantee when you do, you will know it was the best decision you have ever made.
