Concealed Sin
Proverbs 28:13 (NLT) “People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.”
A lot of Christians are blinded by this scripture. Most believe they have already confessed everything to God but still have a little something on the side. Or maybe they have unforgiveness in their heart, such as someone from their past they haven’t forgiven. How about telling little white lies? Think about it. There is no difference between a white lie and a regular lie.
Don’t misunderstand confessing your sins as something you do “before” and “after” you become a Christian. Before you became a Christian, there is no way you can list ALL the sins you ever committed in your life. The scripture above aligns with those who have already given their hearts to Christ and are followers of God. You have a clean slate, but as you live your life, you occasionally make mistakes and sin. That is why we have this assurance:
1 John 1:9 (NLT) “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
Arrogant people suffer from one basic principle: they never see themselves as doing anything wrong. Sadly, people who suffer from ignorance have the same blinders. That is why we need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will convict you of sin. He reminds you of what you did wrong and begins to nudge your spirit to get it right with God by confessing it.
Take the time to humble yourself before God and ask Him to use the Holy Spirit to show areas in your life where you have hidden sin. If you are sincere and you have a heart willing to confess, repent, and change, then the Holy Spirit will remind you. Remember, it is better to confess your sins now, while you are still on this earth, than to wait until judgment to confess them. It will be too late.
