Slow To Anger
Nahum 1:3 (NLT): “The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.”
When I was a child, I used to believe that every time there was thunder and lightning, God was mad. When I got older, I later thought that when there was thunder, God was rearranging His furniture. When God came down on Mount Sinai to speak to Moses, the entire mountain shook with thunder, lightning, and fire. The sound was so loud that the children of Israel were deeply afraid. When Moses finally came down from the mountain, his face shone so brightly that the Israelites could not look at him. Moses had to cover his face when he spoke to the people.
Some people believe that God today is a god who is angry at everyone. They believe God is sitting on His throne so angry at humanity that He is ready to destroy the entire world into nothingness. What if I told you He isn’t angry with you? The Bible does talk about God’s judgment in the Book of Revelation, but that is for those who refuse to repent and change their hearts. It is like refusing to use an attorney at your trial. Jesus is your attorney who already paid for your debt of sin. But if you want to face God on your own, based on your own good works, and you still have that one unpaid sin, you have no hope.
God is so eager to welcome you into His family that He has done practically everything, including paying your debt of sin through Jesus Christ. God placed humanity’s sin on Jesus, took out his anger and punishment on Jesus, and completely forgave us for any wrongdoing. God’s answer is slow because His nature is love.
Don’t misunderstand: the ungodly, unrepentant evil-doers will be punished. One day, God’s patience for humanity to repent and change will run out. Every act of evil will end. God’s sovereignty will rule, His kingdom will be established on this earth, and Jesus will reign as King forever.
Revelation 11:15 (NLT): “The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,
and he will reign forever and ever.”
If you wonder whether you can ever make things right with God, He has already done it for you. Just come as you are, acknowledge that you are a sinner, tell Him you are ready to repent, and give your life over to Him. And you are ready to receive His forgiveness. God’s anger is very slow, and He is not angry with you!
Be Blessed!
