Bless The Lord
Psalm 103:1 (NLT) “Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!”
Have you ever had a bad day when there was no one around to share how you felt? Or how about when you just feel like you need some time for yourself and don’t want to do anything? King David did. When God removed His anointing from King Saul and proclaimed David to be the next King of Israel, King Saul became jealous after a battle, and the crowd of people was chanting and singing, “Saul killed his thousands, but David killed his ten thousand!” King Saul sought to kill David and chased him for the next 7 to 10 years. Let me repeat that. For the next 10 years, David ran from King Saul. David had fear, anxiety, and mental anguish from being chased and living in caves. There was a time when David and his men were so hungry that they stopped in a small town and ate the Holy Bread in the temple. (1 Samuel 21:1–6) So now you can see, there were moments when David was just mentally tired from running.
When David said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul…”, did you know he was talking to himself? He was encouraging or motivating himself to do the right thing even when he didn’t feel like it. Worshiping the Lord is the most important thing you will ever do when you feel down and tired. Consider this: Technically, God doesn’t need your Worship. God doesn’t have a big ego that requires feeding. God already knows there is no one bigger than Him. God already has angels and 24 elders in heaven now saying nonstop, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty!”
So, if God already has angels worshipping Him, why does He want us to worship Him? I’m so glad you asked. Worship is for YOU! Worship is a way for you to connect to God. Think of it this way: the wall outlet in your house is the source of AC power. But nothing happens until you plug a device into it. So, who benefits from the AC power? The device benefits from being connected to the power source. The more you worship God, the stronger your connection to Him becomes, and that strengthens you.
Tell your mind and spirit to bless the Lord when you don’t feel like it. Bless the Lord when you don’t see the results. Bless the Lord when you are confused and don’t have the answers. Bless the Lord when you’ve been wronged by someone. (God will fight your battles.) Worship the Lord when it doesn’t make sense, and you have all the reasons not to.
Be Blessed!
