Scripture for Today – September 13th, 2026

Get-Rich-Quick-Schemes

Proverbs 13:11 (NLT) “Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.”

Today, there are many ways to acquire money.  The problem is that everyone wants it, and very few have the patience or desire to work for it.  Many alternatives exist for making quick money, but each has consequences.  Although Las Vegas is one location for legalized gambling, people risk high dollars at the roll of the dice or the shuffle of a card deck, only to win immediate cash.

God never intended His children to gain wealth too quickly.  People must understand that money and wealth are about stewardship.  Stewardship is about “being responsible and managing” something that is owned by someone else. Just to be clear, here is what God says:

Haggai 2:8 (NIV) “The silver is mine and the gold is mine, declares the LORD Almighty.”

Our job is to be responsible and manage whatever wealth we have.  Many misunderstand the scripture written in the book of Deuteronomy 8:18. First, everyone stops reading when they reach the part where God gives you the ability to gain wealth.  They never read the second half of the scripture.  The second part explains the purpose of why He blesses you with wealth.  Also, the entire chapter is God telling the children of Israel to remember who set them free from the slavery of Egypt and enabled them to survive in the wilderness to humble and test their hearts.

By the way, did you notice in Deuteronomy 8:18 that it didn’t say God will give you money?  It says He will give you the ability to get wealth.  There is a reason for that.  The scripture in Proverbs 13:11 confirms that if you don’t have the skills, ability, and patience to get wealth, you will lose your wealth quickly.  That is why so many people who win the lottery lose money quickly.  Money comes from knowledge, work, patience, wisdom, and skill.

Wealth grows from hard work and over time.

Be Blessed!
