Manage Your Money!
Proverbs 27:23 (Amplified) “Be diligent to know the condition of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds…”
Have you ever wondered why some people have lots of money, and some don’t? Or have you ever noticed someone who doesn’t make a lot of money wins the million-dollar lottery, then months later they become broke? Some people have made millions of dollars, e.g., football and basketball athletes, only to lose it all. There is a reason for this.
God wants everyone to be a good steward of money. The problem is that most people do not understand what stewardship really means. Stewardship of money is different from being obsessed with greed. A steward is someone who watches and manages something in their possession. That item doesn’t belong to them (Haggai 2:8), which is why they are held responsible for watching it. But God doesn’t want you to watch the monetary treasures that He provides for you. Jesus gives a clear example in the parable of the Talents. The owner gave each servant a portion of Talents (money). When the Master returned, two of his servants invested it and made even more money. But only one of them did nothing. Out of anger, the Master took the talent from the servant who did nothing and gave it to the ones who invested.
This scripture is about money management. Being diligent in knowing the condition of your flocks is basically saying you should know what you have in your bank account. Know where your money and possessions are. What is the condition, e.g., how is your money invested? Is it all tied up in stocks? Are you gambling your money away at the casinos? Are you using credit to buy things you don’t have money to cover? When it comes to your finances, the Kingdom of God doesn’t operate on unilateral equalization of wealth. God clearly stated, if you don’t work, you don’t eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
The quickest way to lose money is not to manage it yourself. Ask any wealthy person who lost their money, and they will tell you that they trusted someone else to manage their wealth. Or they took bad advice from someone and trusted them to manage their money.
Ask God to help you manage your finances. If you are terrible at it, then you need to spend time every day looking at it until the numbers add up correctly. Be extra cautious with electronic transfers because people tend to spend more when they don’t physically see the money.
God wants you to prosper, just as your soul (mind) prospers. So spend time learning how to manage wealth from a biblical perspective. Keep track of everything you spend. Remember, it is not what you make, but what you keep, that counts.
