The Weary Heart
Matthew 11:28 (NLT): “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”
Do you stay up late at night worrying over things and circumstances involving your life? How about worrying about things you need to do the next day but haven’t figured out how to get done? Some folks worry about what they worry about. In other words, if they don’t have anything to worry about, then they start worrying because they think something is wrong with them.
In this scripture, heavy burdens refer to heavy loads. It is similar to spiritual anxiety, and spiritual anxiety is the same as a battle going on in your mind and spirit. You are trying to get an answer to the information that you are processing. This becomes an endless cycle that pulls your attention away from the One who has the answers to your problems. Think about it. You are carrying burdens, worry, and anxiety because you haven’t found a solution. You are trying to figure it out on your own.
Jesus said very clearly to come to Him, and He will give you rest.
- Are you full of weariness? Go to Jesus.
- Are you full of anxiety? Go to Jesus.
- Are you full of worry? Go to Jesus.
I know you are thinking, “How can I go to Jesus when things need to get done? I have bills to pay. Things don’t look good.” I am not saying to do nothing. I am saying to turn worry over to Jesus and tell Him you will wait for Him to guide you into what needs to be done.
Never be ashamed to go to Jesus to ease your troubled mind. Whatever thoughts are weighing you down, tell Jesus that you can’t function with this on your mind. Tell Him you need His help.
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV): “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”
Be Blessed!
