Fear Fuels Worry

Matthew 6:25 (NLT): “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”

Do you struggle not to worry?  Do you feel bad if you don’t worry? Do you struggle to sleep at night because your mind can’t shut down while you worry about the next day?  Many people struggle with worry and don’t know how to stop.  Some turn towards medication, while others find easy substitutes that have no effect.

Worry is focusing on bad things you think could happen to you but haven’t happened yet. You’re stuck thinking about bad things or future events that could happen to you or someone you care about.  Consider this: You never worry about the past unless you fear what happened then could negatively affect you now.

The Fuel for Worry is Fear.  If you are not afraid of what can happen to you, then worry disappears.  Worry can focus on yourself (what you fear may happen to you), or on what you fear will happen to someone else.  You can also worry about what will happen to your car or your home.  All of these are future events that haven’t happened yet.

Here are some things to fight against worry:

  • You live in the present, not the future.
  • Make plans for the future, then turn those plans over to the Lord.  (1 Peter 5:7)
  • Stop trying to control everything.
  • Walk in Faith, not Fear!  The Enemy feeds you False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR) to coerce you to do something, or to do something now before something happens.
  • Set your mind on things above, not on things below.  (Colossians 3:2; Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things) Worry solves nothing.  You waste time and burn extra energy.
  • Take Every Thought Captive – (2 Corinthians 10:5)  You are responsible for every thought that flows in your mind.  The enemy WILL place thoughts in your mind, but you can choose to dwell on them or get rid of them.
  • Submit your Mind, Will, Emotions, and Body to the Lord.  Resist the Devil, and He will flee! (James 4:7) YOU must resist the enemy, speak God’s Word out loud, then the thoughts of worry and the enemy will flee!

Be Blessed!

  1. Truly grateful to read and study this devotion!! In terms of an actual application, there was a worry on-hand and I started applying these bullets right away to reset my mind on things above. The fear was trying to fuel the issue and it was bring on weariness! But I can honestly attest through studying this lesson and “ letting go” so that the Lord took control, I received the answer through prayer TODAY! Many Thanks Ron for walking with us and teaching these truths! 😀
