Your Desire, Your Treasure
Matthew 6:21 (NLT) “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Let’s face it. Everyone is busy. We are either busy doing something for someone else or for ourselves. The key is that it is our decision to choose what we give our attention. Jesus explained that your treasure is whatever you value. The word treasure in Greek is Thesauros, meaning storehouse, treasure, or treasury. It is the same word from which we get our English word “thesaurus,” meaning a collection or storehouse of similar words.
We give our time to items, circumstances, and people because we value them. And whatever we value, treasure, or place in our storehouse, we willingly give our time to make room for those items, circumstances, and people.
Whatever is important to you, you make time for it.
Here is an important question: if you know you should read your Bible daily, why aren’t you doing it? Let me bring up something that I think everyone can relate to: no matter what the circumstances, situation, or person, you will always make time to eat. Why? Because after a period, your body will begin to crave food. You will stop a phone conversation saying, “Hey, I need to run because I haven’t eaten yet.” Or if you don’t feel like going out, but someone invites you out to eat and it is their treat, all of a sudden you feel like going out. So if we will “make” time to eat, why can’t we “make time” to feed our spirit by reading the Bible? Why can’t we make time to spend time with the Lord, worshiping? Or spend time praying? Be careful in your response, because any answer you give is an excuse, and that excuse is saying, “God isn’t important enough in your life.” I’m not talking about people who read the Bible at a certain time and then an emergency happens and you need to address it immediately. I’m talking about folks who never make an effort to read the Bible outside of Sunday at church.
Did you notice the scripture stated that your desire is linked to what you treasure? If you don’t desire to read the Bible, pray, worship, or spend time with the Lord outside of Sunday at church, then you don’t treasure or value God. Again, I’m not saying you must do these things 24 hours a day. I’m talking about making time, a special and specific time, with God. This is your time with God to hear and learn from Him.
If you say you put God first, then make Him first by making time for Him daily.
Be Blessed!
