Forgetting the Past
Philippians 3:13 (NLT) “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead… “
As a Christian believer, one of the hardest things you will ever do is to forget your past. I’m referring to after you have reconciled your past, asked forgiveness from the Lord and others, and done your best to set things right with others. Although you have done everything you know to do, the enemy weaponizes your past failures to attack your mind.
In the book, Battlefield of the Mind, by Joyce Meyer, it talks about how the enemy attacks your mind. The strategy of the enemy is to make you feel guilty, shameful, worthless, and hopeless from who you used to be. The enemy wants you to forget that you are a NEW CREATION in Christ Jesus. God sees you as a new creature. Your past sins are forgiven, and He doesn’t think about them. (2 Corinthians 5:16–17). When a negative thought enters your mind, we forget to remind the enemy that you were covered in the blood of Jesus, and you are a new creation. The previous version of you, called the old man, is dead. It no longer has the power to control you, unless you give it power by feeding it with your attention. If you are constantly thinking about your past failures, then God is on pause waiting on you.
Whenever a negative thought from your past creeps into your mind, immediately take authority over that thought by saying, “No! I am a child of the Holy Living God, and I am the righteousness of Christ! I will not dwell on this thought!” You must resist the devil and he will flee from you! (James 4:7)
Focus on the thoughts and the plans that God has for you! (Jeremiah 29:11) God always thinks about your future to give you hope. God can turn your mess into a message. Your test can become a testimony. Your mourning can be turned into dancing!
If God is not focusing on your past, then don’t let the enemy convince you to focus on your past.
Be Blessed!
