The Heart of a Repented Soul
2 Chronicles 33:12,13 (NLT) “But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. 13 And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God!”
To understand the full context of this scripture, you must read the whole story starting in 2 Chronicles, chapter 33, verse 1. In summary, Manasseh was the next King of Israel after his father Hezekiah. Manasseh became King at the young age of twelve. Unfortunately, Manasseh was a very evil wicked King. He practiced the worship of Pagan idols such as worshiping the God of Baal. He did sacrilege things by placing a carved idol in the Holy Temple (2 Chronicles 33:7) that only meant for the God of Israel. The worst thing he ever did was to sacrifice his own son to the God of Baal by throwing him in a fire.
God saw all of this and was deeply angered. God spoke to Manasseh through prophets to warn him, but Manasseh ignored God’s warnings. So, the Lord sent the commanders of the Assyrian armies, they conquered Jerusalem and took Manasseh prisoner. The Assyrians placed a bronze ring in Manasseh’s nose, bound him in chains, and took him to Babylon. Manasseh was so distraught that he cried out to God. Although Manasseh did terrible wicked acts of idolatry and led the people of Israel to do the same, God still heard his prayer.
God hears the heart of a repented soul.
It doesn’t matter how badly you have messed up your life. There is no sin God can’t forgive as long you are sincere and truly humbled yourself to the point of repentance. You are willing to change everything no matter what the cost. God knows your motives. He knows if you are not being honest. If there is something that isn’t right in your life, humble yourself to God. He is ready to forgive.
