Humble Yourself Before The Lord
James 4:10 (NKJV)“Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
Christians forget that God wants us to be humble before Him. He is the Almighty, the one who speaks things into existence; from nothing to something. Jesus said we should fear the one who has the power to send your soul to hell. Yeah, He’s the one.
It takes a lot for humans to humble themselves. This is because we pride ourselves on what we do and our self-accomplishment. God hates it when you start to boast about your accomplishments as if it were all about you. If you don’t humble yourself to the Lord, then God will humble you.
There is a story about King Nebuchadnezzar, who had a lot of pride and boasted to others about the wonderful city he built in Babylon. He wanted recognition and honor. But God was very displeased with his pride and arrogance. Immediately, God caused King Nebuchadnezzar to lose his kingdom and forced him to behave like a wild beast and eat grass for seven years.
Daniel 4:33 (NLT) “That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.”
Another servant named Jonah ran from God because he disagreed with what God told him. God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and tell the people to repent. The prophet Jonah told God the people were wicked and did not deserve His mercy. We know what happened next. Jonah humbled himself after three days in the belly of a great fish (perhaps a whale), and he remained shocked.
Humbling yourself to God is giving up what you choose to do and choosing to do what God wants you to do. “Not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42) Ask the Lord to help you to become humble. Ask Him to show you where you exhibit pride and are unwilling to give things up. When you submit and humble yourself to the Lord, you are placing yourself under His wing of protection.
