Work With Me
Luke 11:23 (NLT) “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.”
Many Christians are in their comfort zone. They have a job. They have their family and circle of friends. And they have their routines. Some have extracurricular activities involving the church: singing in the Choir, leading Sunday School or Bible Study, or donating their time to help those in need. All are good things to do “for” the Lord. The question is, “What are you doing ‘with’ the Lord?”
Too many times, we are used to being the driver behind the steering wheel. But are you listening to the Holy Spirit’s guidance? Did you even ask which direction you should take before you acted? When you are in the car, are you asking the Holy Spirit which way to go, even though you already know how to get there? For example, after leaving Church, most people think about swinging by the store to pick up something, or maybe filling up your car with gasoline since the next day is a regular workday. You probably know the directions to the store, and you probably have a favorite gas station. Have you ever thought God might want to guide you to the store a different way because he wants you to meet another person? Or maybe there is heavy traffic, and He is guiding you away from traffic. A drunk driver might not notice a red light at an intersection and run through it at the same time you are turning. There are many examples. The point is whether you are sensitive to the Lord enough to listen to Him as He guides you. If you ignore the voice of the Lord and do your own thing because you know what you are doing, then technically you could be working against God inside of you.
Jesus was making a very direct statement. If you are not with me, then you are working against me.
Proverbs 16:25 (NKJV): “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
That is why, at judgment, many will cry to Jesus, thinking they were doing things for Him, only to be told Depart from me, for I do not know you. If you haven’t figured it out yet, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit want a relationship with you! A relationship means talking to Him, interacting with Him, sharing your thoughts with Him, sharing your feelings with Him, and asking for His guidance.
When you pray, ask the Lord the following: “Father God, show me how to build a stronger relationship with you through Jesus Christ. Teach me to be sensitive to your voice and help me obey quickly what you say. Jesus said His sheep know His voice, and I want to know when He is talking to me!”
Be Blessed!
